Injectables Aftercare: Do’s and Don’ts

Woman receives Botox injection between her eyebrows. Her provider will offer instructions for aftercare. Injectables, such as Botox and dermal fillers, are popular non-surgical treatments to smooth wrinkles, enhance facial contours, and achieve a more youthful appearance. After your treatment, it’s important to follow specific aftercare guidelines to ensure the best possible results and avoid any complications.

Do’s After Injectables

Injectables are a quick, effective way to enhance your appearance, but proper aftercare is essential for optimal results.

Stay Upright for a Few Hours

It’s recommended to remain upright for at least 4 hours after your injectable treatment. This prevents the product from shifting to unintended areas of your face and helps it settle properly.

Apply Cold Compresses for Swelling

Mild swelling or redness is normal after injectables. Applying a cold compress can help reduce any swelling or bruising. Just be sure not to apply too much pressure.

Keep the Treated Area Clean

Maintain cleanliness around the treated areas to avoid infections. Gently wash your face with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water to keep your skin free from bacteria.

Stay Hydrated and Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure

Drinking plenty of water helps to keep your skin hydrated, which is crucial for healing and maintaining the results of your injectables. Additionally, avoid direct sun exposure as much as possible.

Don’ts After Injectables

To avoid complications, it’s important to follow these key guidelines on what to avoid after injectables.

Avoid Touching or Massaging the Area

It’s important not to rub or massage the treated area for at least 24 hours. Doing so can cause the injectables to shift.

Skip Strenuous Exercise

Avoid intense physical activities for at least 24-48 hours after your treatment. Exercise can increase blood flow, potentially causing swelling or displacement of the injected material.

Avoid Alcohol and Blood Thinners

Alcohol and blood thinners, such as aspirin, can increase the risk of bruising after injectables. It’s best to avoid these for 24 hours before and after your treatment.

Don’t Use Heavy Makeup or Skincare Products

Skip using heavy makeup or strong skincare products for the first day. These products can irritate the treated area or increase the risk of infection.
